Saadani National Park
Saadani National Park, located along Tanzania’s northern coast, is one of the most unique safari destinations in East Africa. Covering about 1,100 square kilometers, it is the only national park in Tanzania bordering the Indian Ocean, making it the perfect combination of wildlife safari and beach relaxation. Visitors can enjoy game drives in the morning and relax by the beach in the afternoon, all in one place.
The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, hippos, and crocodiles, as well as a wide range of marine and bird species. The coastal environment adds an exciting twist, where you may spot dolphins offshore or nesting green turtles along the sandy beaches.
Game Drives
Explore the park’s savannah and grasslands, where you can encounter elephants, antelopes, zebras, and predators like lions and hyenas.
Boat Safaris
Take a boat trip along the Wami River, where hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species can be spotted up close.
Beach Relaxation
Enjoy the white sandy beaches along the Indian Ocean, making Saadani the only park where you can combine wildlife viewing with beach leisure.
Birdwatching
Over 250 bird species thrive here, including fish eagles, kingfishers, and sandpipers, making it a paradise for bird lovers.
Cultural Visits
Explore nearby fishing villages to experience the local Swahili culture and coastal lifestyle.
Saadani can be visited year-round, but the experience varies with the seasons. The dry season (June – October) is best for game drives, as wildlife gathers around water sources and the roads are easier to navigate. The wet season (November – May) transforms the park into a lush, green paradise with beautiful coastal scenery and excellent birdwatching opportunities, though some areas may be harder to access due to rains.
