Gombe National Park

Gombe National Park

Gombe Stream National Park, located along the shores of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, is the country’s smallest national park—but one of the most extraordinary. Covering just 35 square kilometers, Gombe is world-famous for its wild chimpanzee population and for being the site of Dr. Jane Goodall’s pioneering chimpanzee research, which began in 1960 and continues today.

Despite its size, the park offers breathtaking beauty, with steep valleys, lush forests, waterfalls, and the sparkling waters of Lake Tanganyika. It is a paradise for primate lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a more intimate safari experience.

Best Time to Visit Gombe National Park

Gombe can be visited year-round, but the best time for chimpanzee trekking is during the dry season (June – October), when trails are easier to navigate and chimpanzees are easier to locate. The wet season (November – May) brings lush green scenery, fewer tourists, and excellent birdwatching, though trekking can be more challenging due to muddy conditions.
